Santa Maria Navarreseis a small seaside resort on the east coast of Sardinia, to the north of Tortoli and in the Nuoro region
Discover Santa Maria Navarrese
Italy This Way review: Santa Maria Navarreseis a small resort, with limited commerces, but the beach is a pleasant destination for a stroll as you explore this relatively unknown region of Sardinia

There is little of interest in the centre of the village, except for a few restaurants and small shops, although you will find essential commerces such as a baker and a small supermarket.
Otherwise, the centre is mostly a large open area with a park for small children, and holiday apartments.
The main beach in the town, the Spiaggia di Santa Maria Navarrese, is about 500 metres long and sandy. There are trees behind the beach and a rocky promontory at the south end of the beach which makes for a pretty backdrop.
The principal historic monument in the town is an old stone tower at the north end of the beach, built in the 17th century as a watchtower.
Further north, you reach the port of Santa Maria Navarrese, mostly small boats and with a mountainous background beyond the port.

Attractions nearby
In the port you can organise a boat trip to see some of the very picturesque creeks ("cales" in Italian) along the coast to the north of the town, that continue as far as Cala Gonone. Cale Goloritzi is one of the best known but many are very beautiful and the trip along this part of coast is one of the most attractive in Sardinia - see Cala Gonone for details.
