Visit Sala Comacina
Sala Comacina is a village with a harbour on the south-west part of Lake Como, in the north of Italy.
Exploring Sala Comacina
Italy This Way comment: Sala Comacina is a small town and there is not a great deal to see but the harbour area is pretty and merits a 30 minute wander when you are nearby.
You can park next to the main road in the village and explore on foot: the interesting part of Sala Comacina is pedestrianised.
The village church is on Piazza Puricelli next to the main road. From here you can follow one of the paths down towards the lake. The historic part of Sala Comaina is really just a few alleys leading down to the harbour
Along the edge of Lake Como there are several squares: Piazza Caprani, Piazza Matteotti and Piazza XXV Aprile. The main harbour for Sala Comacina is next to Piazza Matteotti, and from here you have lovely views across Lake Como to Isola Comacina and to the mountains beyond. There is a childrens play area to the east of the harbour.
You can organise a boat trip to Isola Comacina from the harbour: the island is best known for its use in various movies but also has a much more ancient history, and was occupied in Roman times.
The village of Ossuccio is just a few kilometres to the east of Sala Comacina and has a small but picturesque historic centre. Beyond Ossuccio and reached by boat from Lenno you can visit the Villa Balbianello, an impressive villa on a promontory used as a location in several films including Star Wars 2.
