Visit Ovindoli
Ovindoli is a town in the Appennine mountains popular both as a winter ski-resort and a summer holiday destination for walkers, bikers and horse-riding. It lies between Rome to the west and Pescara to the east and is a popular holiday destination for residents of both cities.
Explore Ovindoli
Ovindoli started as a ski resort after WW2 and since then has gone from strength to strength. Major investments in the slopes and facilities in the 1990s led to Ovindoli and the Mount Magnola ski resort being one of the top resorts in Central Italy. It has recently linked with the nearby ski stations of Campo Imperatore and Campo Felice to form the 'Le Tre Nevi', or the 'Three Snows' Ski Centre offering a wide range of pistes and facilities.
The Ovindoli Mont Magnola ski resort has 30 km of downhill ski-runs offering pistes for all levels of skiers. There is even a cross-country ski course and stadium. Modern chair lifts and a snow maker and plenty of accommodation, apres-ski, restaurants etc make this a popular choice with skiers.
Ovindoli is also popular in the summer for a range of sporting activities including walking, horse-riding, cycling, archery and climbing.
Ovindoli is in the Regional Park of Sirente-Velino home to Marsican bears, wolves, golden eagles and deer amongst many other animal and bird species. The "Le Fosse - Monte Arso" cable car operates during parts of the summer allowing you to travel up the mountain whilst enjoying the tremendous views of the surrounding countryside.
Places to Visit Nearby
The nearby village of Santo Stefano di Sessanio is well worth a visit. This virtually abandoned village was discovered by a Swedish-Italian millionaire and restored according to strict instructions preventing any alterations from detracting from the beautiful Medici-era buildings. It is classed as one of the "most beautiful villages of Italy.
Even closer is the town of Celano with its imposing Piccolomini castle. Regular trains travel between Celano and Ovindoli in the winter making access for skiing very easy.
