Lombardy lakes travel guide
LOMBARDY
The Lombardy region of northern Italy reaches high into the mountains in its northern regions.
It contains some of the great highlights of Italy, with Milan in the centre of the region and the two very popular lakes at Lake Como and Lake Maggiore to the north-west of the region.
The stunning Parco Nazionale dello Stelvio is to the north-east of Lombardy in the high Alps, approached from Milan by Bergamo, a pretty town visited most for the old town Citta Alta; Lake Iseo and Val Camonica - two scenic highlights of the region.
After taking in the many pleasures of Milan you should also visit the duomo at Monza and, a little to the south of the city, the historical highlights of Pavia - especially the monastery at Cartusia di Pavia. The medieval town of Lodi to the south-east of Milan is also very attractive.
The south-east of the Lombardy region contains the interesting city of Brescia, and a little further afield the towns of Cremona, Sabbioneta and Mantova each have their own charm and interest for the visitor.
